Vietnam: 4-year-old Nguyen Phuoc Thien

The doctors found that Thien had a hole in his heart during an examination at the hospital and that he needed surgery very soon.  Thien had pneumonia and was weakening.

Being one of the poorest families in Binh Lanh Village, Thien's family is poverty-stricken.  Six family members live in a slum with only 90 square feet for all to share.  Except for the main income they can earn from planting rice and raising pigs, they have no other ways to earn money.  Their daily lives are short of food and clothing; hence, they depend on the little help from their government and relatives.  Thien's father is the main laborer in the family but in recent years, his health has been bad and he falls ill.  Their financial situation is very difficult.  They had no ability to save their son.

Many came together to provide the funds for this precious child's surgery.  His doctor reported his health was good following the operation.

Thien's father shares his family's appreciation:

"Thanks our child Nguyen Phuoc Thien has a chance to operate.  All is well with him now and today he will leave the hospital in a healthy condition.  We would like to forward our deepest gratitude for what you have done for our child.  Thank you very much for your kind help."
